This synthetic rope can be used on both bolted and sloted drums. For use on slotted drums the steel bolt eye needs to be removed. There are numerous reasons why to buy Synthetic rope over wire rope:

♦ Synthetic Rope weighs 6 times less than wire.
♦ Synthetic Rope is rated at 70 percent stronger than wire.
♦ Synthetic Rope floats, wire doesn’t.
♦ Synthetic Rope is coated to prevent abrasion.
♦ You don’t have to worry about wire splinters.
♦ No strength loss when overlapped on winch drum.
♦ Synthetic Rope will not severely whiplash if broken.
♦ Synthetic Rope comes pre-stretched and heat set.

Reviews and Q&A

  • Good morning, I have a Warn M8000 winch that uses an 8mm by 30m wire rope at present. Will this synthetic rope be a suitable replacement? I've purchased replacement ropes from you before but you no longer list the item. Our operatives have a habit of letting the tension off on the drum, then when winching the wire rope ends up kinking because of overlap of loose cable on drum!!! What is the SWLL of the rope and hook please? The winch is only used to pull a piece of machinery into the back of a lorry via a tail lift. Max weight of machine is 3 ton.

We believe the rope on the M8000 is 5/16 so 8mm would be a very close match on diameter.  There would probably be some slight modification required to fit the rope as each winch has its own connection type.

I would suggest caution in fitting a synthetic rope to a winch which has previously been operated with Steel rope.  In addtition to the roller fairlead needing to be changed to a hawse fairlead, any scrapes, burrs or damage to the drum can cause damage to a synthetic rope and cause rope failure.
